ETYSSA WAS BORN
FROM A COMMON
In 2009, during our university studies, we started producing spumante (sparkling wine) strictly following the dictates of the Metodo Classico (traditional method). Some of us knew each other since childhood, but our friendship grew stronger during our high school studies. We studied and shared several professional experiences both at home, in Trentino, and abroad. When the idea was born, no one thought that we were about to create such an ambitious and long-lasting project. At the beginning, we just wanted to experiment firsthand what we had studied, spend some time together, and produce some bottles of spumante to give as a present to our friends and relatives during the commencement.
During the third production year, we decided to give additional value to our project: the achieved results seemed excellent, and we were enjoying more and more our work together.
This is how ETYSSA was born.
With the 2012 vintage we managed to bottle our first 3.466 bottles and in 2016, after 36 months of ageing, we can finally present our Cuvée n° 1.
We love our territory, which thanks to its unique soil and climate is undoubtedly destined to the production of Metodo Classico. Our name is its testament. ETYSSA stems from Etisa, the ancient German name of the river Adige, which contributed to the creation of the orography and the adequate climatic conditions necessary for the production of a Metodo Classico of the highest quality.
at HIGH ALTITUDE
Our vineyards are located in the municipality of Trento (Italy), on the slopes of the Mount Calisio (1,097m), at a height of 500m between the towns of Mojà, Tavernaro and Villamontagna.
We are in the very heart of the Trentodoc production zone, where the Mediterranean climate meets fresh Alpine winds.
The growing season is characterized by strong thermal shocks in the day-night cycle thanks to the updrafts of the surrounding mountains. In the hottest hours of the day, the work in the vineyard is rejoiced by the presence of the Ora del Garda, the wind originating from the Garda Lake.
Particularly interesting is the soil of our vineyards: glacial dolomitic with a calcareous mineral base, deep, fresh and well drained.
The coexistence of these conditions sets the ideal environment for the production of grapes destined for the prise de mousse.
Every year we produce a spumante Trentodoc, which represents the highest expression of that year’s vintage, because we are convinced that each and every vintage has its special story to tell. With our cuvées – all rigorously from the same vintage – we want to share these unique stories with the world.
